Parliament confirms Idrees Fauzy as public representative to JSC

Parliament has formally confirmed the appointment of Idrees Fauzy as the new member of the Judicial Service Commission (JSC), representing the general public.
The confirmation follows the opening of applications for the post on June 12, in anticipation of the conclusion of Dr Aminath Ummu Kulsoom’s term, which is set to end in August. Dr Kulsoom currently serves as the public representative on the Commission. A total of eight individuals submitted applications.
Each applicant was assessed by the Judiciary Committee of Parliament through a structured interview and scoring process. Based on the evaluations, Idrees Fauzy received the highest score.
Following the interviews, the committee shortlisted the four highest-scoring applicants and submitted their names to the full chamber for consideration. A
Parliament formally approved his appointment during the sitting held on July 15. Sixty-four Members of Parliament voted in favour of his nomination. Idrees is currently serving as the Secretary General of Kalaidhoo Council in Laamu Atoll.
The Judicial Service Commission serves as the primary governing authority of the judiciary. Its membership includes the Speaker of Parliament, a Member of Parliament elected to the Commission, a representative appointed by the President, a justice of the Supreme Court, a judge from the High Court, a judge from the lower courts, a public representative approved by Parliament, the President of the Civil Service Commission, and the Attorney General.
