The Maldives Police Service (MPS) has confirmed that it is investigating reports of tap water being fraudulently sold under the guise of Zamzam water.

According to MPS, a social media page named 'Saamaanu' had been advertising what it claimed to be original Zamzam water. The posts included a contact number for purchasing the water, suggesting availability for local buyers.

However, concerns were raised by members of the public who alleged that the water being sold was not genuine. Reports indicated that the product was being imported into the Maldives and falsely marketed, despite being ordinary tap water sourced from the United Arab Emirates.

Further claims suggested that UAE police had intervened by raiding the facility where the water was being packaged. According to these accounts, several individuals involved in the operation were arrested during the raid.

The Maldives Police Service stated that it is working in coordination with relevant authorities to investigate the matter thoroughly. They assured that it would take appropriate action based on the findings of the inquiry.
