The Maldives Police Service has launched a road safety awareness campaign in Hulhumalé to address growing concerns over traffic-related incidents in the Greater Malé Region.

The campaign began on July 16 in Hulhumalé Phase 1 and has since extended to Phase 2. Organised by the Hulhumalé Police, the initiative aims to educate the public on safe driving practices and raise awareness of the human cost of road accidents.

Police officers are stationed at key locations during peak hours, such as school and office commute times, delivering safety messages directly to road users. The campaign also features visual representations of accident scenes and the use of loudspeakers to highlight the dangers of speeding and reckless driving.

The awareness drive follows recent statistics released by the Maldives Police Service, which show 1,101 road accidents were recorded in Malé City, the Sinamalé Bridge, and surrounding highway areas between January 1 and June 30, 2025. A total of 61 incidents resulted in serious injuries or fatalities, with motorcycles and cars accounting for the majority of collisions.
