President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has wrapped up a three-day visit to the United Kingdom, where he engaged in a series of high-level meetings to advance cooperation in governance, climate action, trade, and education.
The visit comes ahead of the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the Maldives and the UK, first established on July 26, 1965.
A key moment of the trip was a private audience between President Dr Muizzu and King Charles III at Windsor Castle, where the two reaffirmed the longstanding ties between their nations.
In London, President Dr Muizzu met with the Speaker of the House of Commons, Sir Lindsay Hoyle, to discuss environmental protection, sustainable tourism, fisheries, and democratic governance.
He also addressed the All-Party Parliamentary Group on the Maldives at the House of Lords, reiterating the Maldives’ commitment to bilateral cooperation and expressing appreciation for the UK’s continued support in climate resilience, justice reform, and defence capacity building.
At the Maldives–UK Business Forum, President Dr Muizzu outlined investment opportunities in five key sectors: the creative economy, digital transformation, renewable energy, fisheries, and tourism infrastructure.
A highlight of the forum was the launch of “From Maldives,” a new national fisheries brand aimed at promoting high-quality Maldivian seafood in international markets.
The event also saw the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade and the West London Chambers of Commerce.
President Dr Muizzu concluded his visit with a meeting with Commonwealth Secretary-General Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey. Discussions focused on good governance, trade, and sustainable development. He also reaffirmed the Maldives’ national goal of achieving developed country status by 2040.
President Dr Muizzu was accompanied by a senior Government delegation throughout the visit.
