The Maldives Meteorological Service (MET) has issued a white alert for a wide swath of the country, from Haa Alifu Atoll in the north to Thaa Atoll in the central region. 

The alert is in effect from 1:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. today and covers a total of 17 atolls, including Haa Alifu, Haa Dhaalu, Shaviyani, Noonu, Raa, Lhaviyani, Baa, Kaafu, Alifu Alifu, Alifu Dhaalu, Vaavu, Meemu, Faafu, Dhaalu, Thaa, and Kulhudhuffushi City.

According to MET, winds in the affected regions are expected to blow at speeds of 19 to 24 miles per hour, with gusts reaching up to 40 mph. Sea conditions are forecast to be rough, posing potential risks to maritime activities.

The Met Office has also warned that adverse weather is expected to persist over the next 24 hours, urging residents and travellers to take necessary precautions.

Small vessel operators and fishermen are especially advised to avoid unnecessary travel and remain vigilant while at sea.
