Minister of Economic Development, Transport and Trade Mohamed Saeed has held discussions with Vice Governor Ren Jingdong of China’s Sichuan Province, alongside Chinese Ambassador Kong Xianhua, to strengthen economic cooperation between the two sides.

The meeting focused on enhancing bilateral ties and exploring opportunities to expand trade and investment, in line with the direction set during recent high-level engagements between the Maldives and China.

According to officials, discussions included better utilisation of Free Trade Agreement (FTA) provisions, expanding Maldivian fish exports to Sichuan, and strengthening cooperation in key sectors such as fisheries, agriculture and industry.

Both sides also expressed support for encouraging Sichuan-based enterprises to invest in the Maldives and participate in trade exhibitions, with expectations for further concrete outcomes from the collaboration.
