Maldives Immigration has announced that effective 29 July, Sri Lankans visiting Maldives will receive a 90-day on-arrival visa.
The announcement, posted on Immigrations’ X account on Thursday, stated that the decision follows discussions between President Dr Mohamed Muizzu and Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Disanayaka during the latter’s state visit to Maldives.
Immigration further noted that Maldivians have been receiving a 90-day on-arrival visa to Sri Lanka since January this year.
During President Disanayaka’s state visit, Sri Lanka also announced that Maldivians living in Sri Lanka and traveling for medicals or education will receive a 1-year visa. Additionally, Sri Lanka will also grant a one-year visa to the spouses of Maldivians working in Sri Lanka as well.
These decisions reflect the close bilateral ties between the two nations.
President Disanayaka concluded his state visit to the Maldives on Wednesday, during which he engaged in high-level discussions, witnessed the signing of a key memorandum of understanding and a treaty, and participated in a symbolic tree planting event.
