President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has welcomed the adoption of the New York Declaration on the Peaceful Settlement of the Question of Palestine and the Implementation of the Two-State Solution, calling it a strong show of international solidarity with the Palestinian people.

In an official statement released on Thursday, President Dr Muizzu said the declaration reflects overwhelming global support for Palestine’s permanent sovereignty, its full membership at the United Nations, and its recovery from ongoing Israeli aggression

He reiterated the Maldives’ firm and unwavering support for an independent Palestinian state based on pre-1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital, following international law and UN resolutions.

The New York Declaration on the Peaceful Settlement of the Question of Palestine and the Implementation of the Two-State Solution was adopted with the endorsement of over 130 countries.

  •  Immediate ceasefire in Gaza and end to Israeli military operations.
  • Commitment to a two-state solution based on pre-1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as the capital of Palestine.
  • Establishment of a unified Palestinian government under the Palestinian Authority across both Gaza and the West Bank.
  • Exclusion and disarmament of Hamas and other armed factions.
  • Deployment of a UN-backed stabilisation mission to monitor peace and protect civilians.
  • Full recognition and UN membership for the State of Palestine.
  • Global financial and institutional support for rebuilding and reforming Palestinian governance.
  • Long-term vision for regional cooperation and peace architecture

The Maldives has maintained a firm and vocal stance on the ongoing genocide against the Palestinian people, consistently using international platforms to advocate for urgent global action. Since the escalation of the genocide on 7 October 2023, numerous countries, including the Maldives, have repeatedly called for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza.

According to the latest reports, the death toll has surpassed 60,000, including thousands of women and children. The humanitarian situation remains dire, with Palestinians deprived of necessities such as food, water, and shelter.
