The Maldives Meteorological Service (MET) has issued weather alerts for large parts of the Maldives today, warning of strong winds, rough seas, and heavy rainfall.

A Yellow Alert is in effect from Haa Alifu Atoll to Kaafu Atoll from 7:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., with forecasts of sustained winds between 25 and 30 miles per hour, gusts reaching up to 50 miles per hour, and very rough sea conditions.

A White Alert has also been issued for the area from Alifu Alifu Atoll to Laamu Atoll for the same period. Winds in this region are expected to range from 19 to 24 miles per hour, with gusts of up to 45 miles per hour and rough seas.

The MET Office has forecast strong weather conditions across these regions throughout the day, accompanied by rainfall and generally strong winds. Authorities have advised the public to avoid sea travel unless essential and to exercise caution if travelling by sea.

According to the advisory, travellers should avoid night journeys, postpone non-urgent trips until conditions improve, and pay close attention to weather updates. Conditions are expected to improve from Thursday.
