The Maldives has solidified its standing as a global tourism leader, winning 'World’s Leading Destination' for the fifth year running and earning the title of 'World’s Leading Green Destination' for the first time at the World Travel Awards 2024.

A celebration event was held on 27 November at Velana International Airport’s Waterfront, with key figures such as Tourism Minister Ibrahim Faisal, Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC)'s CEO Ibrahim Shiuree, and Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL)'s CEO Ibrahim Shareef Mohamed in attendance.

Speaking at the event, MMPRC’s CEO Shiuree called the awards a reflection of the nation’s dedication to excellence and sustainability in tourism.

"These accolades were a testament to the hard work and dedication of our tourism industry stakeholders, who had consistently strived to elevate the Maldives as a world-class destination," he stated.

The event also saw the unveiling of new ‘Maldives signage’ at the airport, aimed at boosting the country’s global visibility as a premier travel destination.
