An electricity cable was found cut inside a STELCO substation in Maafannu, near Fareedhee Magu, on Thursday night.

The incident was reported to the police at 9:46 p.m., according to authorities. While police confirmed they are investigating the matter, no further details have been released at this time.

Similar incidents involving cable theft or tampering in substations have been reported in the past. Both STELCO and the Maldives Police Service have repeatedly warned the public against entering electrical substations, citing serious risks such as electric shock and even fatalities.

Substations are typically fenced off and marked with warning signs to prevent unauthorised entry.
