The Ministry of Construction, Housing and Infrastructure has confirmed that 843 individuals have received land registrations under the Gedhoruveriya Scheme.

The Ministry explained that the registration process was resumed following amendments to the land use plan of Gulhifalhu, where plots had previously been allocated through a lottery system. The final allocation of plots was decided during a draw held on 30 May.The issuing of the new registrations commenced on 12 July and has continued steadily since.

To obtain the official registry, landowners are required to book an appointment through the Hiyaavahi Portal. According to the Ministry, the portal contains all relevant information necessary to complete the process. Individuals unable to attend their allocated time are permitted to reschedule.

The changes to the land use plan introduced by the current Government led some allottees to decline agreements after the annulment of earlier registrations. In response, new applications were accepted under the revised arrangements. The most recent registrations have resulted in a growing number of recipients assuming ownership of their plots.

The Ministry has further stated that it will seek consultations with the Attorney General’s Office to resolve legal shortcomings identified in agreements issued under the previous administration.
