The Maldives Water and Sewerage Company (MWSC) has commenced work on a new facility in Hulhumalé capable of producing 10,000 tonnes of water per day, in a bid to enhance sustainable water supply in the Malé region.
At a ceremony held on Sunday at MWSC’s Hulhumalé Operation Centre, the foundation concrete works were inaugurated by 10 long-serving employees, each with over 29 years at the company, alongside Managing Director Abdul Matheen Mohamed, Chairperson Shamhooza Ahmed, and other board members.
The building is scheduled for completion by September this year. Upon completion, it will house two reverse osmosis (RO) plants, each with a capacity of 5,000 tonnes per day.
MWSC described the project as a key milestone in strengthening the water supply network for Malé and Hulhumalé, reaffirming its commitment to delivering safe drinking water and sanitation services to all citizens in a sustainable and uninterrupted manner.
