Agreements have been signed for the construction of a new school building and the launch of seaplane services to Baa Kamadhoo.

The school project has been awarded to Fahi Dhiriulhun Corporation (FDC), with FDC Managing Director Hamdhan Shakeel signing on behalf of the company and Education Minister Dr Ismail Shafeeu representing the Government. The signing took place during a ceremony attended by President Dr Mohamed Muizzu as part of his visit to meet the island’s residents.

Alongside the education project, a further agreement was reached between Hawks Hotels and the national carrier Maldivian to begin seaplane services to Kamadhoo. Hawks Hotels Director Hussain Aman signed the document for the company, and Island Aviation Services Managing Director Ibrahim Iyas signed on behalf of Maldivian.

Under this agreement, seaplane flights will operate between Kamadhoo and Velana International Airport, offering improved transport links that are expected to support the island’s tourism sector. Kamadhoo already has one of the largest guesthouse operations in the atoll, with 13 guesthouses currently open and several more under development.

The introduction of direct seaplane connections is anticipated to enhance accessibility for visitors, further strengthening the guesthouse industry on the island. This development is also expected to contribute to the continued growth of tourism across the atoll.
