President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has called for a whole-of-society approach to empower young people and ensure their voices are heard in decision-making at all levels.
In a message posted on X, to commemorate International Youth Day, President Dr Muizzu urged communities, local governments, and global platforms to integrate youth perspectives in shaping policies and actions towards achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and beyond.
The President called on those in positions of responsibility to nurture young people’s creativity and ensure they have access to the necessary resources to determine their futures.
Highlighting his Administration’s commitment, President Dr Muizzu reaffirmed his dedication to fostering a participatory environment in which youth are recognised as agents of change, diversity in development efforts is celebrated, and the benefits gained are inclusive.
The Government is undertaking extensive efforts to empower the nation’s youth. Under this, a National Advisory Committee on Youth has been established to guide and strengthen youth-focused initiatives. In addition, work is underway to develop a creative economy that will create new opportunities and nurture a generation of productive young people in the Maldives.
The Government is also implementing upskilling and apprenticeship programmes in collaboration with the private sector, government agencies, and institutions. These initiatives aim to equip young Maldivians with the knowledge, skills, and experience needed to succeed in the modern workplace.
