President assures Goidhoo residents of full delivery on promises

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has announced that a tender for the development of Goidhoo’s harbour will be floated this month, with construction set to begin within the year. Coastal conservation work is planned to start next year.

The announcements were made during his visit to Goidhoo as part of his ongoing tour of inhabited islands in Baa Atoll. Speaking at a meeting held at Goidhoo School, the President outlined a series of development projects aimed at improving the island’s infrastructure and public services.

He confirmed that a project to resolve issues with the island’s power plants and enhance electricity supply will be launched this year, addressing a critical need for reliable energy.

Turning to education, President Dr Muizzu noted that the first phase of expanding the school premises is nearing completion, with the construction of a multi-purpose hall scheduled to begin early next year as part of the second phase.

In health care, he confirmed plans to begin work on a fully equipped health centre that will provide multiple facilities, further supporting the well-being of the community.

The President also highlighted developments in sports and recreation, stating that a full-sized football ground will be commissioned within two to three months, while a fitness and recreation centre is set to launch later this year.

Regarding tourism, the President stated that eco-tourism activities are set to commence this year. The bid for developing a resort in Goidhoo lagoon has been awarded, with the agreement expected to be signed before the end of the month.

On housing, he assured the community that the Government has granted the necessary permissions for land allocation in Goidhoo, addressing local shelter needs.

The groundbreaking ceremony for the new Goidhoo Police Station took place during President Dr Muizzu’s visit. He also toured the Bank of Maldives branch on the island, where ATM services were officially launched.
