Baa Fehendhoo is set for a series of development projects this year as part of the Government’s commitment to extend essential services to all inhabited islands, regardless of population size.
Addressing the residents of Fehendhoo, President Dr Mohamed Muizzu reaffirmed his Administration’s commitment to ensuring that all inhabited islands in the Maldives receive essential services, regardless of population size. He further outlined the plans, noting that water and sewerage works, health service expansion, sports facilities, and community infrastructure are among the priorities.
Fehendhoo, home to about 150 residents, will have its stalled water and sewerage project resumed under the Maldives Water and Sewerage Company (MWSC), replacing the previous contractor, the President assured.
In health services, the Fehendhoo Health Centre will be expanded with new facilities, including a laboratory. Sports and recreation developments will include a football pitch, a volleyball court, a fitness and recreation centre, an outdoor gym, and a children’s park. Education is another key focus, with efforts underway to secure teachers for higher grade levels at Fehendhoo School. Plans to address coastal erosion and improve the island’s jetty have been earmarked for the next national budget cycle as well.
The visit also saw the inauguration of a Bank of Maldives ATM service and the commencement of construction on a new police station, further enhancing local infrastructure and services.
