President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has pledged that all future development projects for Baa Kihaadhoo will be implemented in line with the wishes of the community.

Speaking to residents during his official visit to the island, the President emphasised that while significant work has been completed, more remains to be done, with priorities set according to the needs expressed by residents.

During the visit, President Dr Muizzu inaugurated the completion of the island’s coastal protection project. He also announced that a new coastal protection initiative would be launched for the northern side of Kihaadhoo, with funds to be allocated in the next fiscal year. The President confirmed that land has already been reserved for this purpose.

He highlighted the Government’s ongoing efforts to relocate the island’s power plant away from residential areas, noting that construction of a new facility on land allocated by the council would begin soon. Plans are also underway to provide Kihaadhoo Health Centre with additional resources, including an ambulance to be procured and delivered by early next year.

The President said that expansion works on the health centre would be accompanied by new facilities and equipment. In the sports sector, projects to develop the football field, a youth centre, and a children’s park are scheduled to begin this year.

As part of the visit, President Dr Muizzu also inaugurated the island’s first ATM, making Baa Kihaadhoo the 45th island to receive the service this year under the joint Government–Bank of Maldives programme to install ATMs in all inhabited islands. The self-service facility will enable residents and businesses to carry out banking transactions locally.

According to the Bank of Maldives, ATM services have now been established in all inhabited islands of six atolls, with plans to extend coverage to 100 islands in total this year and over 250 ATMs nationwide.
