President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has stated that all pledges made during the presidential election will be fulfilled. He made the remarks while meeting residents of Baa Dhonfan during his visit to the island.
The President said eight major commitments had been made to the island, including land reclamation, canal modification and coastal protection, which have been awarded to the Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) as a single project.
He added that Fahi Dhiriulhun Corporation (FDC) has been entrusted with building new facilities for Dhonfan School, including classrooms, a library, a multipurpose hall and a laboratory, in order to address challenges in the education sector. Six classrooms will be built in the island, which the President said would greatly strengthen the island’s educational environment once completed.
In the field of sports, President Dr Muizzu noted that work on a football field had begun but was not initiated in a way that would allow the entire project to be finished. He said the Government would ensure the completion of the field, including the installation of fencing and lighting. He further outlined plans for additional sports facilities, including the rebuilding of the futsal field, the development of a handball court, the establishment of a volleyball court, the construction of a fitness and recreation centre, and the installation of an outdoor gym.
On health services, the President announced plans to construct a high-quality building aimed at bringing significant improvement to the sector. He also confirmed that work on the stalled water and sewerage project would resume soon, explaining that delays were due to the lack of space for a work site and shortages of staff.
Once the project is completed, road construction will commence. The President said the roads would be developed to a standard that he described as being of high quality and in line with residents’ needs.
