The Maldives has strongly condemned Israel’s recently announced "Vision of Greater Israel” plan, rejecting what it calls expansionist and settlement schemes that violate international law and undermine Palestinians’ rights to self-determination.

In a statement on X, President Dr Muizzu said the proposal, coupled with inflammatory rhetoric, risked further escalating tensions in the region and perpetuating the suffering of Palestinians. The Maldives urged the international community to take urgent, unified action to safeguard Palestinian rights and bring an end to the ongoing humanitarian crisis.

The condemnation comes as Israel’s settlement policies and territorial claims face widespread criticism from global leaders and rights organisations. The United Nations has consistently held that such measures contravene international law, including Security Council resolutions, and are a major obstacle to achieving a lasting peace based on a two-state solution.

Reaffirming its unwavering solidarity with Palestine, the Maldives said it remains committed to all initiatives aimed at securing a just, comprehensive, and enduring peace in the Middle East, and stressed that accountability for violations and the protection of civilian lives must remain a priority for the international community.
