State Minister for Homeland Security and Technology Uz Ahmed Siddeeq has said that the exact number of foreign nationals living in the Maldives will be known by the end of March 2025.

Speaking on MMTV's Bodu Khabaru programme, the State Minister revealed that no comprehensive record of foreigners existed prior to 2013.

To address this, the Government has launched a verification process, including biometric data collection and fingerprint verification for migrant workers.

The State Minister also stated that around 5,000 illegal migrants have been deported this year - a record number in a single year.

He emphasised that this initiative will directly benefit Maldivians by curbing illegal activities, including the unauthorised sale of dollars, thereby helping to stabilise the country’s dollar crisis.

State Minister Siddeeq highlighted the current Administration's commitment to addressing public concerns, describing the Government as one that prioritises the satisfaction and well-being of its citizens.
