Maldives celebrates 58 years of diplomatic relations with Republic of Korea

The Maldives has commemorated the 58th anniversary of diplomatic relations with the Republic of Korea at a reception hosted in Malé by the Korean Ambassador, Miyon Lee.
The event brought together Cabinet Ministers, senior Government officials, and members of the diplomatic community to reflect on nearly six decades of bilateral cooperation.
Foreign Minister Dr Abdulla Khaleel attended the ceremony as Chief Guest and delivered remarks highlighting the depth of the Maldives–Korea relationship. He reaffirmed the Maldives’ commitment to strengthening ties with Seoul, noting that the partnership has steadily expanded into key sectors including human resource development, governance, education, technology, and healthcare. Minister Dr Khaleel emphasised that these longstanding collaborations have played an important role in national development and capacity-building efforts.
The Foreign Minister also commended the enduring friendship, stating that relations between the Maldives and Korea have been guided by mutual respect, trust, and a shared vision for peace and prosperity. He expressed confidence that both countries would continue to build on this foundation, advancing cooperation in emerging areas to support sustainable growth and stability.
The reception concluded with both delegations reiterating their commitment to deepening engagement at bilateral and multilateral levels, reflecting a continued dedication to fostering strong diplomatic ties as the two nations look ahead to new opportunities in the years to come.
