Bank of Maldives (BML) has received recognition from Mastercard for its outstanding contribution to advancing the Maldives’ digital economy through the Digital Country Partnership initiative.
The award was presented to BML’s CEO and Managing Director, Mohamed Shareef, by Mastercard’s Country Manager for Sri Lanka and the Maldives, Sandun Hapugoda, during the Digital Finance Leadership event held in Singapore.
The Digital Country Partnership, signed in August 2025 between the Ministry of Homeland Security and Technology, BML, and Mastercard, underscores BML’s commitment to driving digital transformation and innovation across the country. The initiative aims to expand digital infrastructure and improve access to secure and efficient digital services for individuals, businesses, and communities nationwide.
Since becoming a Principal Member of Mastercard in 2002, BML has collaborated with Mastercard on numerous transformative projects that have shaped the nation’s payment and financial landscape. These include enabling digital payments for the Raajje Transport Link (RTL) as part of the Maldives’ broader smart city initiatives.
This latest recognition highlights BML’s leadership in leveraging technology and strategic partnerships to accelerate progress, strengthen financial inclusion, and support the country’s journey toward a modern digital economy.
