Government has assured that all relevant authorities are working together to resolve the ongoing water disruption in Fuvahmulah City.

The Chief Spokesperson at the President’s Office Heena Waleed stated on X that, based on recommendations from the Maldives Food and Drug Authority (MFDA) and the Health Protection Agency (HPA), the entire water pipeline will be disinfected and water tanks will be cleaned and flushed. Water services are expected to resume within approximately six hours once the water quality meets safety standards.

Meanwhile, Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) has begun providing drinking water and other essential assistance to the city by sea and air. So far, 500 cases of 5-litre water bottles, 1,300 cases of 1.5-litre bottles, and 1,000 cases of 500-millilitre bottles have been delivered by air. Of these, 1,200 cases have already been distributed to residents, while additional supplies are being transported to the city.

Residents of Fuvahmulah City began reporting service interruptions at around 1 p.m. yesterday. Fenaka Corporation stated that water services were being suspended in households where cross-connections with supply lines had led to contamination of the main water network.
