The Maldives Fisheries and Ocean Resources Marketing and Promotion Corporation has signed a key agreement with China’s Hainan International Economic and Trade Corporation Limited to expand the marketing of Maldivian fisheries products in the Chinese market.
The agreement was signed by the Managing Director of the Maldives Fisheries and Ocean Resources Marketing and Promotion Corporation, Dr Mohamed Ibrahim, while Patricia Wang Meihong, General Manager of Hainan International Economic and Trade Corporation Limited, signed on behalf of the Chinese company.
Under the partnership, Maldivian fisheries products, particularly sustainably harvested tuna, will be promoted and marketed in multiple cities across China. The initiative is expected to significantly enhance export opportunities, increase foreign exchange earnings, and strengthen the international presence of Maldivian seafood products.
In addition, a separate agreement was signed to promote fisheries products produced in Meemu Dhiggaru. This agreement was entered into between the Maldives Fisheries and Ocean Resources Marketing and Promotion Corporation and Dhiggaru Marketing Corporation.
Dr Mohamed Ibrahim signed the agreement on behalf of the Maldives Fisheries and Ocean Resources Marketing and Promotion Corporation, while Vice Chairperson Ismail Maahid signed on behalf of Dhiggaru Marketing Corporation.
Under this agreement, fisheries products from Dhiggaru will be promoted at both national and international levels, supporting local producers and enhancing market access for island-based fisheries.
The agreements reflect the Government’s efforts to strengthen the fisheries sector, improve value addition, and position Maldivian fish products as premium, sustainably sourced commodities in global markets.
