VIA new terminal development progressing ahead of schedule: Minister Ameen

The Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation, Mohamed Ameen, has announced significant advancements in the development of the new international terminal at Velana International Airport.
Commemorating the International Civil Aviation Day, one of the key highlights made by the Minister was the announcement that the new international terminal at Velana International Airport is ahead of schedule. The expedited opening of this terminal is expected to significantly enhance passenger services, support increased flight operations by both domestic and international airlines, and strengthen the Maldives’ connectivity with global markets.
In addition, Minister Ameen also revealed that preparations are underway for a mid-2025 audit by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO). The audit will assess the Maldives' compliance with international aviation standards, and the Minister expressed confidence in the Civil Aviation Authority’s efforts to deliver a positive outcome.
Other key milestones were also highlighted, including the revival of helicopter services and the introduction of wide-body aircraft for the national airline. These developments mark significant steps forward in the Maldives’ aviation industry, further diversifying services and expanding operational capabilities.
