The Ministry of Social and Family Development has visited over 500 households in Fuvahmulah City as part of the Haalu Kihineh? programme; an initiative aimed at addressing the health and social needs of families across the Maldives.

The programme is designed to engage directly with citizens, focusing on families and elderly individuals, to better understand their concerns and provide necessary support.

In a video message, Deputy Minister for Social and Family Development, Nazeeha Ahmed, announced that since its launch on December 3, 2024, the programme has made significant progress in Fuvahmulah City. She reiterated the Ministry’s commitment to visiting every household in the city to ensure comprehensive coverage.

During the visits, residents raised several important issues, with difficulties in accessing specialist medical care being the most common concern.

Other challenges, which have been reported in various islands across the Maldives where the programme has also been implemented, include issues with obtaining essential medicines, housing shortages, and the need for enhanced financial assistance through the social security system.

The Haalu Kihineh? programme provides a vital platform for citizens to communicate their needs directly to the Government. In response to the feedback gathered, the Ministry is working on addressing these concerns.
