President extends greetings on 40th anniversary of SAARC Charter Day

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has commemorated the 40th South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) Charter Day by sending a message that highlights the importance of the occasion for the people of South Asia.
In his message, the President extended heartfelt greetings to the SAARC Secretary-General, the Secretariat, affiliated institutions, and the people of South Asia.
Reflecting on the organisation’s journey since its inception, President Dr Muizzu praised SAARC for its enduring efforts to enhance the well-being of South Asians. He recognised the core principles and values of the SAARC Charter, which aim to foster peace, prosperity, and regional collaboration.
The President urged for a renewed commitment to addressing key challenges facing the region, including climate change, public health, and economic inequality.
He highlighted the importance of focusing on sustainable development, innovation, and resilient infrastructure to strengthen connections across South Asia.
President Dr Muizzu reaffirmed the Maldives' unwavering commitment to a dynamic and inclusive SAARC, one dedicated to fulfilling the shared aspirations of its members and working towards a brighter, more prosperous future for all South Asians.
SAARC Charter Day, celebrated every year on December 8, serves as an important reminder of the continued efforts to strengthen regional ties and cooperation.
