Sheet piling works under the second segment of the Malé Northside Boduthakurufaanu Road Development Project have reached 65 per cent completion, with 168 metres installed to date.

In an update shared by the Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC), it also stated that building-side sidewalk installations have been completed, while stormwater catchment pits and cable junction installations are nearing completion at approximately 90 per cent. The company added that reclamation and anchor block installation works are continuing.

MTCC stated that the project covers the upgrading of a key road in northern Malé, where road widening and infrastructure improvements are being carried out to improve traffic flow and pedestrian access. The works include the construction of a 250-metre asphalt road section between the local market area and North Harbour, with the road widened to six metres.

In total, 1,088 metres of roadway is being upgraded, extending from the Henveiru Ferry Terminal to North Harbour. The first phase of the project, covering 140 metres, has already been completed, while the second phase is expected to be completed before the start of Ramadan. Once completed, the upgraded section will be opened to the public.

The project also includes the installation of a new stormwater drainage system aimed at improving water management during periods of heavy rainfall. MTCC noted that the overall development is expected to enhance pedestrian safety, reduce congestion in the commercial harbour area and support smoother movement of goods within Malé City.
