A mosque built in memory of the late Islamic scholar Sheikh Ibrahim Fareed Ahmed has been officially inaugurated in Bangladesh.
The mosque was inaugurated by Sheikh Fareed’s sons, Abdulla Fareed and Abdul Rahman Fareed. The facility is able to accommodate more than 300 worshippers at a time.
Sheikh Fareed passed away at the age of 53 on 9 June 2025 while in Malaysia on a religious mission. He died at Kuala Lumpur International Airport. Following his death, the NGO Khidhumaiy, which had worked closely with him during his lifetime, announced plans to construct a mosque in his memory in Bangladesh.
According to the organisation, the mosque was built with an estimated construction cost of MVR 760,000. The funds required for the project were raised within a short period through public contributions.
In addition to the Bangladesh project, the NGO has announced plans to construct a mosque in Hulhumalé Phase III in Sheikh Fareed’s name. The proposed mosque is expected to accommodate up to 2,500 worshippers.
Sheikh Fareed was widely admired in the Maldives for his dedication to spreading Islamic teachings. His public lectures were known for their depth, clarity, and wide appeal, drawing large audiences across the country.
