Minister of Economic Development and Trade, Mohamed Saeed --

The Ministry of Economic Development and Trade has announced precautionary measures to mitigate potential economic repercussions stemming from the ongoing developments in the Middle East.

In a statement issued on 28 February 2026, the Ministry confirmed that it is closely monitoring global developments and evaluating possible implications for trade flows, supply chains and domestic market stability in the Maldives.

The Ministry noted that international volatility – particularly in fuel prices, freight costs and the supply of essential goods – may affect the local economy. In response, relevant authorities are taking proactive steps to ensure the uninterrupted availability of essential commodities and to minimise disruption to businesses and consumers.

Coordination efforts are also underway with key stakeholders to monitor market conditions and prevent undue price fluctuations. The Government is reviewing policy options, where necessary, to strengthen economic resilience and safeguard public welfare.

The Ministry reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining economic stability and stated that further updates will be shared with the public as required.
