The Government has awarded the project to develop the Malé Wet Market Complex to TrustEng Maldives Private Limited, according to the Ministry of Construction, Housing and Infrastructure.
The agreement was signed at a ceremony held at the ministry by Permanent Secretary Mohamed Shamil on behalf of the Government and Managing Director Mohamed Abdul Hadi on behalf of Trusteng Maldives. The project valued at MVR 126,359,594.94 is scheduled to be completed within 600 days.
According to the ministry, the development will involve the construction of a six-storey wet market complex with a basement parking area. Under the design plan, the ground floor will house a fish market, while the first, second and third floors will be allocated for vegetable markets. The fourth floor will be developed as a food court area, with plans to establish four separate food court outlets.
The complex will be built in the area where the current local market operates, as part of the Government’s efforts to reorganise the market area of Malé City and bring several market services currently operating in separate locations under one facility.
