Minister of Finance and Planning  Moosa Zameer has assured that the Maldives currently has sufficient gas stocks and will not face shortages of oil or gas despite rising prices in the global market.

Speaking to MMTV during a door-to-door campaign held by the People’s National Congress (PNC) in the North Hulhumalé constituency ahead of the upcoming Local Council and Women’s Development Committee elections, Minister Zameer said the Government is closely monitoring the situation arising from the ongoing conflict in the Middle East.

He said a cabinet committee formed under the direction of President Dr Mohamed Muizzu is taking steps to ensure that essential goods such as food, medicines and fuel remain available in the country. According to the minister, the Government is also giving priority to arrangements concerning Maldivian students studying abroad.

Minister Zameer noted that although international oil and gas prices have increased, the Government is working to ensure that the burden does not fall on the public. He said domestic fuel prices have not increased by more than 30 per cent despite fluctuations in the global market.

The minister further assured that gas supplies remain stable, stating that a gas tanker is already in port while two State Trading Organisation (STO) vessels are currently en route to the Maldives carrying fuel supplies. He added that the Government has taken various measures to reduce expenditures.
