Early results show the People’s National Congress (PNC) taking an early lead in the Local Council and Women’s Development Committee (WDC) elections held nationwide on Saturday.

Preliminary results indicate that the PNC has secured a majority of seats declared so far, winning 108 seats. The MDP has secured 36 seats.

The elections were held alongside a public referendum seeking voters’ views on whether presidential and parliamentary elections should be conducted on the same day.

A total of 294,876 eligible voters were registered for the polls, including 144,506 women and 150,370 men.

Vote counting remains ongoing nationwide, with additional results expected to be announced.
