The Health Protection Agency has extended the deadline for submissions to the World No Tobacco Day Awards, providing additional time for applicants to submit nominations.

According to the agency, the new deadline for applications is 2:00 p.m. on May 13, 2026. The original closing date for submissions was May 3. Applicants are required to complete the application form and submit it via email to [email protected].

The awards are presented in recognition of individuals and organisations contributing to tobacco control efforts in the Maldives, as part of initiatives to reduce tobacco use and its impact on public health.

Authorities noted that ongoing measures include increasing taxes on tobacco products, raising retail prices and strengthening restrictions on access. In addition, awareness programmes and cessation support services are being offered through health centres nationwide to encourage individuals to quit smoking.
