President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has inaugurated the Maldives National Defence Force Service Corps’ School of Engineering and Logistics as part of celebrations marking the 134th anniversary of the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF).

According to the Ministry of Defence and National Service, the school was established in Kihaadhoo to strengthen the technical and scientific capabilities of the MNDF and is the first specialised military training school in the Maldives focused on technical education.

The school also forms part of the President’s National Service initiative, aimed at providing technical training opportunities for young people. Currently, 65 students from 35 islands are enrolled in the programme, including 49 male and 16 female students between the ages of 16 and 19.

Courses offered at the institution include automobile engineering, marine engineering, electrical work, refrigeration, welding and office management. The four-month programme is accredited by the Maldives Qualifications Authority at Level 3 and is designed to prepare students for employment and technical careers.

In addition to technical training, the programme places emphasis on discipline, character development, punctuality, religious awareness and national service values.

The inauguration ceremony also included presentations on military history and the awarding of special medals to long-serving MNDF personnel.
