The Maldives national men’s and women’s futsal teams have both secured places in the top 100 of the FIFA Futsal World Rankings, becoming the first time a Maldivian team has achieved the milestone in a FIFA world ranking system. In the latest rankings published by FIFA, the men’s team ranked 99th globally, while the women’s team ranked 96th in the women’s rankings introduced earlier this year.

The men’s team, which recently won the SAFF Men’s Futsal Championship, currently holds the highest ranking among SAFF nations and is also placed 24th in Asia. The women’s team ranks 35th in Asia, with experts noting potential for further improvement through increased international participation. The achievement comes as the Football Association of Maldives (FAM) prepares reforms to strengthen the country’s futsal framework, including recognition of the Club Maldives Cup as the top-tier futsal league.
