The People’s National Congress (PNC) candidate Mohammed Nazeeh has secured the council seat in Veyvah following a ruling by the High Court regarding the Local Council Election held on April 4.

Nazeeh filed a petition alleging that invalid votes had been counted during the election.

In its ruling, the High Court declared three votes counted in the election invalid. However, the decision did not affect Nazeeh’s vote count, which remained at 119 votes.

Meanwhile, Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) candidate Ahsan Naeem saw his total reduced from 121 votes to 118 after the invalid ballots were removed.

The ruling confirmed Nazeeh’s victory and secured a council majority for the Congress Party in Veyvah Council.
