The Maldives Meteorological Service (MET) has urged the public to remain cautious during the Eid Al Adha holidays as strong winds are expected across northern and central atolls beginning Tuesday.

Speaking to MMTV, the MET stated that windy conditions are forecast to affect northern and central parts of the country from Tuesday onwards. The agency advised the public, especially those travelling during the Eid holidays, to take necessary precautions in light of the expected weather conditions.

The advisory comes as the India Meteorological Department reported the formation of three low-pressure systems over the Bay of Bengal and the Arabian Sea. However, the MET stated that these systems are not currently expected to directly impact the Maldives.

The MET further stated that thunderstorms and rain are expected across northern atolls over the next 24 hours, while central and southern regions may also experience unsettled weather conditions.

Winds are expected from the west-southwest and west at speeds between 8 and 18 miles per hour, with gusts potentially reaching up to 35 miles per hour during squally conditions, the office added.
