State Electric Company Limited (STELCO) has completed the upgrade work on the power system of the 50-megawatt powerhouse in Hulhumalé without any interruption to electricity services.

The upgrade work was carried out during the early hours of Saturday as part of efforts to strengthen electricity services in the Greater Malé Region.

Earlier, STELCO had stated that there was a possibility of temporary power interruptions in some areas if electricity demand exceeded available generation capacity while the work was underway. However, the company confirmed that the upgrade was successfully completed without the need to disconnect power to customers.

STELCO stated that the upgrade will enable additional generation feed into the Hulhumalé powerhouse and further improve the reliability and modernisation of electricity services provided to customers in the Greater Malé Region.
