Mohamed Shakeel has resigned as Managing Director and Board Member of Maldives Hajj Corporation Limited, the Privatization and Corporatization Board (PCB) announced on Tuesday.

The PCB said it had accepted his resignation and formally relieved him of his responsibilities at the State-owned company.

Shakeel tendered his resignation after receiving parliamentary approval for his appointment to the vacant seat on the Elections Commission, which became available following the resignation of Mohamed Zahid as President and member of the commission.

Shakeel previously served as a member of the Elections Commission from 3 December 2014 to 9 May 2018. Before joining the commission as a member, he served as its Director General from 1 September 2013 to 3 December 2014.
