Mohamed Nizar --

Parliament’s State-Owned Enterprises Committee has approved President Dr Mohamed Muizzu’s nomination of Mohamed Nizar as Chairperson of the Privatization and Corporatization Board (PCB).

Nizar appeared before the committee on Tuesday, where he received an average score of 82.17 per cent from committee members. Following the interview, the committee unanimously endorsed his appointment.

President Dr Muizzu appointed Nizar to the post on 30 April following the resignation of former PCB Chairperson Mohamed Anas.

Nizar brings more than three decades of experience in international business, corporate management and public administration. He is regarded as a specialist in the corporatisation of state-owned enterprises and in monitoring and overseeing their operations.

He previously served as Chairperson of the PCB from 2014 to 2019, during which he played a key role in advancing the government's privatisation and corporatisation agenda and strengthening governance frameworks for state-owned enterprises.

Nizar also served for more than 20 years at the State Trading Organisation (STO), holding several senior executive positions, including General Manager of Imports, Administration, Information Technology and Sales, as well as Deputy Director. During his tenure at STO, he was involved in major strategic initiatives, including the implementation of enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems, strengthening supply chains and expanding international business partnerships.

In addition, Nizar has served on the boards of several companies, including Maldives Gas Private Limited and Maldives Structural Products Private Limited, and has contributed to various national committees related to risk management, procurement and corporate governance.

Nizar holds a Master of Business Administration and a Graduate Certificate in Business Administration from the University of South Australia. He has also participated in numerous international training programmes and high-level forums on corporate governance and the management of state-owned enterprises.
