The Maldives Police Service has launched a search for a vessel that fled the scene after colliding with a speedboat near the official jetty in Malé on Friday night.

Marine Police stated that the collision occurred at approximately 9:10 p.m. Authorities received a report six minutes later that the speedboat 'Legion 1' had docked near Izzuddin Jetty after the incident.

Police said the second vessel left the area immediately after the collision and has not yet been located.

Five people were injured in the incident and received treatment at Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH). The injured include four expatriate men and one Maldivian man.

Images and videos shared on social media showed that 'Legion 1' sustained extensive damage. Police said one side of the vessel was badly damaged, while the seating area also showed signs of a strong impact.

Marine Police, together with a dedicated investigation team, are continuing efforts to identify and locate the other vessel while investigating the circumstances surrounding the collision.
