Construction of two dedicated parking buildings in Malé will commence this year as part of the Government's efforts to improve parking capacity and ease traffic congestion, President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has announced.

Speaking in the fourth episode of the President's Office podcast The Pulse, the President said the Government had initially explored developing the facilities with external assistance but decided to proceed without delay. He added that work on several parking buildings has already begun in Hulhumalé.

The President said the parking projects are part of broader efforts to provide long-term solutions to Malé's traffic and parking challenges.

He also announced that the second phase of the Boduthakurufaanu Magu redevelopment, covering the stretch from Izzuddin Jetty to Barceló Nasandhura, is nearing completion and is expected to open next week.

The redeveloped road will include parking space for around 500 motorcycles and is expected to improve traffic flow along Boduthakurufaanu Magu as well as surrounding roads. The President noted that traffic data from completed sections of the project has already shown improvements in vehicle movement, demonstrating the project's wider benefits in reducing congestion across the city.
