The Government is working to establish library services on every inhabited island in the Maldives in efforts to improve public access to books and information, with National Library branches currently under development in Addu City and Fuvahmulah City.

The initiative is backed by a national framework developed through consultations with more than 100 stakeholders and studies that identified library services as a need across island communities, while an online digital reports platform has also been launched to improve public access to government publications.
