President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has appointed Fathimath Ameeza as Commissioner General of Taxation at the Maldives Inland Revenue Authority (MIRA), following Parliament's approval of her nomination.
Ameeza was appointed on 16 July 2026, succeeding Hassan Zareer, who resigned after being appointed Minister of Finance and Public Enterprises.
She has served at MIRA for more than 16 years and most recently held the position of Deputy Commissioner General. During her tenure, she has worked on tax policy reforms, strengthening institutional governance and increasing revenue collection. She also received the highest score of 92.44 per cent during the parliamentary vetting process before her appointment.
Ameeza previously headed MIRA's Enforcement Division, where she led efforts to maximise the recovery of unpaid tax and non-tax revenue through the use of data analytics and evidence-based policies.
She holds a Master of Science in Accounting from the International Islamic University Malaysia and a Bachelor's degree in Applied Accounting from Oxford Brookes University.
