The Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA) has opened submissions for a study on establishing an Islamic Digital Asset Centre, with proposals due by December 29. The initiative aims to promote financial inclusion and attract investors by offering Shariah-compliant digital asset solutions, in line with the Government’s goal of becoming a regional financial hub. This builds on previous efforts, including plans for a national digital currency and a target to make the digital economy contribute 15 per cent of GDP by 2030.
