Heavy rainfall in December 2024 caused significant flooding in Malé and several northern islands, including Henbadhoo, Kendhikulhudhoo, and Kurendhoo. The Maldives National Defence Force, Maldivian Red Crescent, and local authorities mobilised quickly to provide relief, conduct assessments, and distribute aid, including sandbags to flood-affected areas. Damage assessments identified 30 households in Malé with structural and personal property damage, and efforts to process claims are ongoing.
