The Ministry of Agriculture and Animal Welfare has expressed concern over rising reports of stray cats being mistreated across islands in the Maldives, urging the public to refrain from such acts as they violate animal welfare standards and Islamic principles. The Ministry highlighted the challenges faced by abandoned pet cats and emphasised that their behaviour does not justify abuse. Plans are underway to assess stray cat populations nationwide.
