The Maldives has unveiled its first Disaster Risk Reduction Strategy (2024-2030), launched by Vice President Uz Hussain Mohamed Latheef at the 'Resilient 20' exhibition commemorating the 20th anniversary of the 2004 tsunami. The strategy reflects the Government's commitment to disaster preparedness and was approved by the National Disaster Management Council on December 24. The 2004 tsunami remains the Maldives' worst natural disaster, causing 82 deaths and displacing over 29,000 people, leading to the establishment of the National Disaster Management Authority.
